I see this is the new thing in blacking out the Dyna. The question is: are most of you guys taking the parts off the bike or taping and masking around the parts being painted? I'm thinking about painting the strut covers and rear turn signals very soon. Maybe even the tank gauge panel. Just trying to do my homework on how everyone is doing this.
Over spray: Yes, it happens! I taped everything off and covered what you see in the video. I also used some paper (all those circulars you get in the mail) and held it behind or to the side of the part being coated to keep the over spray down. Like I said in the video...if you keep some rubbing alcohol handy this stuff wipes right off when it's wet or you can peel it off when it's dry. I really didn't have any issues. I sprayed some on the garage floor by accident, poured alcohol on it and it cleaned right up.
How many cans? Well, I'm guesstimating 1.4 cans. I did 4 coats on everything then sprayed some extra just to be sure. 2 cans will easily coat everything I did plus the strut covers and some other stuff.
Also, I didn't want smooth to answer the other question. They came out nice but not 100% smooth. The Denim Black paint isn't smooth looking if you really look at it. I think Plasti Dip closely resembled the Denim Paint so much that people will assume that is what I used on my forks.
It looks awesome! I am very happy with it. I am going to black out my Audi wheels and my buddies VW wheels this week.
I am waiting on a chopped fender to arrive. If it gets here late and I can't paint it quick enough I am coating it with this stuff for a ride. IDK if anyone would even notice.

I took a newspaper, cut a small hole in it, put the tail light through the hole, taped the paper to the fender and sprayed. No over spray, no issues...Don't be afraid of over spray. This stuff cleans off when wet and it's not permanent. If you slip up just wipe it off and keep going.
Hi, I have a question not related to PlastiDip although I like the idea and it seem to be pretty easy.
This Fat Bob (Customer #1) has a small fairing, any idea who is selling that fairing? I look for a fairing for my FXDXT mainly to cover all those wires and this looks just neat.
I guess it's due time that I chime in here... Here are a few pictures of bikes I've plasti-dipped...
Mine:
Everything: Tank, fenders, air cleaner, fork lowers, and healight visor. Bike was Black Pearl before.
Customer #1 - FatBob: Tank, fenders, Air cleaner, and fork lowers. Bike was Red SunGlo before.
Customer #2 - Street Bob - Fork lowers only. I think it matches the paint pretty well...
Customer #3 - Honda Somethingoranother 1300.... Tank, fenders, side covers, hypercharger, headlight bucket, and plastic decorative dojobbers on the heads. Bike was horribly maroon before.

i am very confused is this a rubber coating? i think i am missing something
yes it is. after its cured it feels like a rubber base. i did my truck rims a while ago. a few weeks ago i decided to armor all my tires and i got some on the rims. i thought it looked good so i armor all'd my rims and tires. the rims looked better. gave them a satin finish as uposed to the flat finish.
