I remember reading in my service manual that there is a switch in the clutch handle housing that allows you to start in gear with the clutch handle pulled in. Maybe you dont have one of those, or its malfunctioning?

My 2012 Fat Bob does the lurch when starting in gear, with the clutch engaged. I asked the dealer about it, he said, 'start it in neutral'. Wow, ya think? He couldn't or wouldn't give me a straight answer.

Have you changed your clutch handle? If so you should have a piece of metal that sticks out a bit to hit the safety switch. If not adjust your clutch cable a bit I had lurching problem as soon as clutch cable adjusted went away

after my bikes been sitting for a few days if I pull the clutch in and try to push it (motor off) the clutch sticks and will drag. I always start in neutral with clutch in, creature of habit

My 07 Street Bob will start in gear with the clutch lever squeezed. Either your neutral safety switch is bad or someone put different levers on that don't work right with the switch.

You are correct. In my situation, someone (me) put on new levers and didn't check for the tab that hits the switch. Swapped them out and it will now start in gear with clutch pulled in. Thanks.
