Default Need some guidance before Dealer appt:

I am noticing a few things that I want to address on my next service appointment at the dealer and need some guidance on how to proceed.

First of all I am experiencing vibrations on acceleration and deceleration. It starts around 2150 and stays until the top of 2500. I rode a sportster prior to this and it doesn't feel "normal" at times it feels worse than others. I have read a lot of people with the same complaint and the solution seems to be the front mount. At this point the dealer is telling me it's a normal "Dyna" vibration and it will smooth out with more miles. There are 658 miles on it. The demo bike didn't have the vibration. Whats the best way to handle the dealer saying it's normal?

I also notice that when I turn it off it "coughs" from the breather. I am hoping the tune will fix this. Could this be a result of the download the dealer used? I am getting about 32 MPG with SE heavy breather and V&H BR 2 into 2. Ir=t just doesn't feel like its running right.

I would go for a cruise...come back and check your plugs. They are your best indicator on how the bike is running.

It helps only if he knows how to properly read plugs.

Look at your motor mounts & see if they're tight...could be wheel weight...

Newer bikes are different fm previous years w/EFI so plugs are no longer a easy indicator of how your motor's running.

Never had a cough with EFI before on any bike. The tune is suspect. If you just have the stage 1 download it will most likely be that as the stage 1 download has to be EPA complaint so the bike still runs quite lean with it. A tune can make or break you but who does it is the most important th ing. Search out a well known tuner in your area if possible as opposed to getting a Dyno at the dealer. Just my .02.

As far as the vibration check the tightness on the motor mount bolts, riser bolts (under the triple tree) tire balance etc.

Found a motor mount bolt missing from my motor mount and the other horizontal bolt was only finger tight when i checked it. I was under the impression that Dyna's just vibrated more, but it is much smoother since I got the new motor mount and got the bolts in there and torqued in properly.

I was reading somewhere on this forum that being below 2500rpm isn't great. Is it possible you're lugging the motor? From what I've read 2500-2800rpm is your best bet. Think it was on here touring section maybe that someone was saying his rule for the big twin motor is no lower then 2500rpm. The guy had quite a few miles on his bikes and no mechanical problems.

The demo bike didn't have your exhaust--that changes the motor's natural frequency for which the isolators were designed.

The coughing is due to your mods. Unless you're lugging it.

I am only used to looking at plugs from the older 2 stroke motors. can anyone post a picture of what the plugs should look like? I am not lugging it in fact I play hell trying to keep it above 2500 because that's the only place it smooths out. Sometimes in the neighborhood or traffic rather it I have to let off the throttle and it falls to 2300 or so it still vibrates. The vibration is noticed more in the pegs that even in the bars. The vibration is felt even just going up through the gears to get to a cruise speed.
