I did mine last year, still look like new - shine up with a little WD-40 on a rag like the manufacturer says. Cant see the split at all either. Back wheel was a bitch though. I had to use a ratcheting cargo strap around the swingarm to pull the spokes apart just enough to slide them on.
Great lookin' ride & I love the contrast on the turn signal visors.
I finally got around to doing this today. The box has been in the garage for months. I'm glad I read this string ahead of time and planned for a long day. The rear took me 4 1/2 hours. The front was done is less than an hour.
I polished the spokes as I went, too, so no surface rust got trapped underneath. I also found that a plastic bicycle tire lever helped with the rear along with wearing gloves to keep a grip on the things.
All my fingers are numb, and I can barely hold my glass of Jameson's, but it was worth it.
Ordered these today. Anymore techniques for doing the rear? Anyone find something small to use to pry the spokes apart enough on the rear when you do it with the wheel still on the bike?

I used a plastic bicycle tire tool for most of it, then switched to a spanner wrench with a plastisol grip that came with the taps for my kegerator. It was thin enough to fit between the spokes and the plastisol helped keep it place while I worked the wraps down the spoke. I also trimmed all mine wraps to length before putting them on so I had a nice, flush edge against the nipple.
Do u have a pic of this plastic bicycle tire tool, not sure what ur talking about. Also all the inner spokes are the same size and all the outers are the same size right, thus helping cut them all before hand?
