My first Harley was a Wide Glide and I bought it because I wanted a nimble, light bike to throw around like my dirt bikes. I had patiently saved cash for 15 years to buy my Harley and all that time thught I wanted a Fat Boy. Then I rode one. It was like making a U turn on the Titanic compared to my KTM.
The Wide Glide was great, but when I started doing 1000 mile weekends, I started craving comfort and traded it for a 201 Road Glide. I LOVE my Roadie, but missed a nimble fun bike. When the opportunity to pick up the 04 FXD came along, I jumped on it and I'm very fortunate to be able to have both. The FXD is snappy, quick, and cool. The Roadie is just plain comfy and there's no way I could take my long trips with a passenger. If I had to pick one, I'd stick with the Road Glide.
Since when? They only way to get the 103 on the Street Bob is to HD-1 the bike. Never seen the option with the FXDC unless this is something they just put out.
Based on looking at the HD site, the Super Glide Custom is the only big twin that does not come with a 103 either stock or by order. I guess I could have an aftermarket 103 kit put in, but that is going to cost at least $1,200 vs. the $350 cost under the HD1 program on the Street Bob.
i struggle with the same decision, have a deluxe now, would love a road king but i have to realize how i ride, few overnite rides and not much touring involved, all solo. have big windshield and leatherpro saddlebags and tourpack so i have to wonder what it is i'll gain for my money
Crap your right! Sorry man, I was looking at the wroung bike when I posted. Didn't mean to get your hopes up like that! Maybe option out a street bob like the superglide?
Can't think of anything would make me trade/sale the 04 FXD, might even let the Bad Boy go first. When the wife set on an Ultra in 08, I knew I was about to pickup a touring bike. It's been to Sturgis, Key West, twice to Four Corners, and up and down east coast. Could not image doing that on the Super Glide. But around town or solo cant beat it.
No interest in a bagger. My Street Bob is as comfortable as a Cadillac. I've only done 800 mile days on it though, and I'm only 53. Maybe when I get old or want to do some distance I'll change my mind.
