I need to look at mine and see how its set up. I know of quite a few others with '06 and up dynas that had to go through a lot of work to get connectors out of the frame. Once it warms up I have a lot of things to tackle with my bike.
06 and later is diff't than yours.
Your plug is about 6 inches into your frame. You have a black square plug on your rear fender (underneath, in front of the back tire)..pop it out and wrestle out the extra wiring loop. (you may have to remove the rear wheel but it's possible to do w/o removing it, you'll just cut up your hands squeeqing in there) Once that extra wiring loop is popped out of the hole you can have someone pull on the harness from the front while you push from the back and it should slide right out and also give you about 10" extra wiring...

I've done at least 6, 06 and up bikes and there easy, the plastic plate under the front back bone (Front of the tank) exposes all the connections right at the neck.If they had trouble they didnt know it was there. Turn sig, HeadLight, Switches, 05 and older just have the rubber plug where the wires feed through. The rubber hose you see in the pic, is thefuel cross over with the tank still mounted. the plastic piece pops out and all the connections drop down.

trotter it sounds like '06's might not be too bad, but this '03 is a pita. I have tried working the wires around within the current bars an at the point where they make a 90* bend inside they seem to be stuck. So I might be riding 1200 miles to Sturgis with the drag bars on it! Actually I'll ride the ferry across Lk Mich and ride over from Milwaukee, about 867 miles. Shouldn't be too bad.
Sorry to hear that, Thats one of the reasons I bought the new switch kit so I could just unplug the connections and leave the wires in the old bars, incase I ever wanted to switchback. The switch kit was only 120.00 and made my life real easy by prewireing (with the new switch kit) the new bars first, Then I just had to Install the Apes and put the right pin's in the right plugs, (But I had the old ones to use as a sample) ThePins are already on the ends and they give ya new plugs. Kinda expensive (120.00) but the whole job took about two hours and no cuts or shrink wrap and looks factory. took longer to install the throtle and brake,Clutch cables.Well I hope it works out in the End for ya Good Luck.
