I bought an extra set of tins and painted them last week. I'm ready to install them, but I have a question about replacing the rear fender. Can I do it without a motorcycle jack? I see the the upper shocks bolts go through the chrome rail that contain the turn signals.
Yeah, the Service Manual is a must if you want to do your own stuff. I can say that I am about to install the Tri-bar tail light and the instructions call for taking the rear fender off and there is no requirement for a lift, even though I have one.
I have an 07 WG. I do have the service manual, but I didn't see anything specific to removing the rear fender. Everything else looks self explanatory, except the shocks. Obviously when you change the shocks you do it one at a time, but I have to take both off at the same time. I don't have access to a jack and was hoping someone might have a trick or two.
No covers. The upper shock bolt goes through the chrome rail that runs front to back along the bottom of the fender and incorporates the rear turn signals.
The upper shock bolt does not go thru the fender. Unplug the harness and pull the 4 fender/strut bolts and the fender slides out. no jack required, no removal of shock bolts. eazy peazy.
When installing the new fender, slip a file folder between the struts and new fender so you don't scratch it. Little trick I read about here.

That's what I needed to know! I was figuring that I was going to have to remove the chrome rails that include the turn signals, and thus removing the shocks. The file folder trick is a great piece of advice.
Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it! I will post pics when I get it back together, the paint turned out great!
