I have done 16 inch bars on my 08 Softail, Z bars on a friends Sprtster 48, and drag bars on a friends 06 Dyna. All the bars were dimpled, but I have to drill the holes for the internal wiring. I used a little grease to pull the wires thru the Z bars. I replaced clutch, front brake and throttle cables on all three projects - and I must say that it took a dork like me only about 8 hours each time.
I think you will find that the project is well worth doing it yourself - not just to save that ungodly amount from the dealer, but it is a fun project, and not that difficult.

I've changed my bars over on a 2012 FXDC to internally wired ones. The wiring plugs on the harness ends were miniature and just dropped thru the holes in the bars. Not much more trouble than changing over 1" bars. Pull out the grommets at the frame neck, gently pull out all the harness cable and see what plugs are there first. You may be surprised. I can't see the moco not having dealer serviceable plugs when internally wired cables are fitted to OE bars..There is also a fair bit of excess in the harness to suit the streetbob apes and I would think all the harnesses are the same for dynas.

He has the new Canbus plugs. They are MUCH smaller and will pull through most bars...

They claim 8 hours labor and all new standard black cables.

Thinking of doing this myself..
Putting on the new apes should be simple, but how difficult would the new cables be to install and properly adjust?
good info
