I'm getting ready to make a decision on which cam i want to install in my 11' FB. in considering all the parts i will need to purchase is it really necessary use the adjustable push rods if i am going to pull the rocker boxes to have them powder coated anyway? it would seam like if i use a andrews 48h cam, the stock push rods should be fine?
since the rocker boxes are off, this would save me the expense of buying, & the hassle of adjusting. there shouldn't be any performance advantage, right?
I've got the Andrews 48's. I talked to someone from Andrews on the phone who told me that the 48 base circle is slightly smaller than the base circle on the stock TC96 cams. If you install 030 head gaskets, it makes up the difference. That's what I did, Andrews 48's, 030 head gaskets, and stock pushrods.
It looks like they're a bolt in. Unfortunately andrews isn't smart enough to specify. 29 degree close in a dyna? Yikes. Hope you like riding into brick walls. That's what it will feel like over 4k rpm.

Sorry I don't know how to post my dyno chart. 102 ft/lbs. tq, still at 90 at 5000 rpm. No brick wall here.
Scan it as a jpeg, post onto a photobucket account and use the IMG code from photobucket in your post.
I agree with your "No brick wall" comments, even a sidecar cam doesn't do that....
Here it is. He stopped the run at a fairly low RPM due to the clutch slipping. I've installed a SE clutch spring since then, but haven't had it on a dyno again.
I just don't get the "brick wall" thing. I got a lot of similar comments with my SE255 cams. Sure, they don't build a lot of extra HP in the upper rev range, but it makes a lot more than stock all the way to the end. The torque through 4500 rpm is better than most stage 2 cams, especially right off idle through the mid-30's. the Andrews 48 has a similar Tq band.
The only brick wall feeling I get is when the rev limtitet kicks in. It rarely happens because I prefer to shift just past Tq peak and let the grunt propel me to the next shift point.
Ok, sounds like its either pull the heads and change the gaskets while i have the rocker boxes off, or use adjustable push rods.
I realize the that this cam is mostly bottom end, and drops off after 4000 rpm, but thats what i am looking for... i plan on doing the 30 pulley change too.. i want most of my power at the low end. i ride mostly around town, some extended day rides, but i have other motorcycles for extended trips or touring... just looking for something to hot rod around town.
