There's no need to do away with the cowbell. Leave it where it is and mount a new horn anywhere you have a mind to.

Ok, I made a quick video just to show the Wolo model 619 for those interested. It isn't going to fit under the cowbell, and unless you want to fabricate a better place for it, I just replaced my factory horn with this one. Heres a good pic of what it looks like installed.
And here is the vid.

I put a set of Rivcos on my FXDF about 10 days before Hurricane Sandy swallowed the bike. Absolutely awesome and attention getting, highly recommended. I'm planning to put a set on my FXDWG in the near future......

Somewhere on this world wide web there are details on seperating the compressor from a Walo or a Stebel air horn so the horn can be fitted under the cowbell.

Using the original horn button, the wire runs under the tank & seat to the compressor mounted near (behind?) the battery. A hose returns by a similar route back to the horn behind the cowbell.

Sound awesome! Is there a way to hide it behind the rear cylinder? It might look better.

You can tune the stock horn to a certain degree....there is a little screw with a locknut that does this.

Did you know Ozzy Osbourne's first job was tuning car horns at British Leyland??

Other than that, head down to a local wreckers yard with a small 12v battery and some wires, test a few car horns out and buy second hand. That is what I did on my Triumph Bonneville 100 years ago.
