All you have to do is remove the stock shift lever, push the splined shifter shaft in flush with the primary cover and then wedge the inboard shaft arm behind the bolt that fastens the tranny to the engine. Mine has been like this since it was new. You can leave it like this which will allow you to easily switch back to mid controls if you ever wanted to. I also never installed the new shift lever that goes on the tranny either. Seems the only difference is a shorter shift throw.
