PCV Issues
So many people get on these threads and bash various tuners and then go on to recommend the tuner that they happen to have. Personally I believe any tuner will provide the desired results if it is programmed (mapped) appropriately. Sure, some tuners have different features than others and maybe more user friendly than others (although the user friendliness is subjective and can be different between different users).
One downside to many tuners is the reliance on canned maps, unless they have some autotune or data tracking capability. Canned maps can be hit or miss. With autotune and/or other data tracking capability, the user has real information to use for making changes. Without those capabilities any changes are nothing more than shots in the dark unless they are made on a dyno.
I run a PCIII on my '02 Duece with a canned map and I'm satisfied with it's performance. I don't have any capability to make changes on this bike other than seat of the pants feel. Tuners have come a long way since I purchased this PCIII several years ago.
On my '11 Limited I run a PCV w/ AutoTune. On this bike I can use the autotune data to assess and make adjustments. I am completely satisfied with the PCV w/ AutoTune set-up with only one exception. There is no data tracking capabilty for ignition timing so any timing changes are simply trial and error.
If I were buying a tuner today it would be a Power Vision due to it's data tracking capabilities.
On the other hand, I have the pcv fuel moto makes with a canned map for my fatcat and it runs great, little pop here and there and I'm getting about 40mpg. My tuner was like $200 bucks...
