Leaking Fuel valve

Default Leaking Fuel valve
I have a 2004 Dyna Low Rider with fuel injection. My fuel valve was leaking and a search of the forum told me to undo the quick disconnect and replace the O ring. I have it apart and the O ring disintegrated. I'm off to the dealer for an O ring but I need some suggestions on how to reassemble. A spring and small nipple popped out. Can anyone give me some help?

I had the same issue on a 08 softail I use to have. I thought it was an o-ring, but it ended up needing the Check Valve inside the tank replaced. $40.00 for the part and about 20 minutes to fix the problem. Never leaked again...

I know my '08 needs the entire piece, valve and hose, they don't do many tiny part replacements anymore, I'm can't be sure about an '04 though.

Replace the o-ring with John Deere part number R26286. You can get a whole bag of them for a couple of bucks. I'm sure someone will tell you that they aren't made for fuel but mine had lasted over a year. For the price difference I can change them out a buncha times.

I got a replacement O ring but can't figure out how to get it in. The old ring came out easy but the female part of the valve is under the tank and upside down. How in the frig do you get the O ring to defy gravity and get it in the fitting?

When I did mine I just worked it up in with a small flathead

apply a little grease even Vaseline will hold it in while you fiddle with other parts, and either is harmful to rubber.

I use a drop of motor oil to help it into place
and FYI, the o ring is the same as the o ring used on the oil drain plugs
