Do you guys change your Pre-Load when you are riding alone vs. when you ride two up?
Mine is set in the middle. On most really long rides it is my wife and I when I ride alone it is usually a couple of hours or so. I am thinking of just setting the things on the stiffest setting and leaving it. When I am on long rides it will be both of us plus whatever junk she has to take with us. So close to the max on weight...
I am just curious how the rest of you handle it? Also, how do they adjust the Softails?
My last bike I rode 2 up and left it on the heavy setting and it was a rough ride solo.
Now I ride just solo. Wife is too scared with the amount of crazy multitaskers on the road today. Simple smooth setting for me now.
You should look into an easy switch shock for 2 up riding.
It all depends on weight....
My OL is rather easy on the shocks, and I have HD 440 shocks so no need if it is just the 2 of us, when we load up for a road trip though I add pre-load.
You really need to feel how your bike reacts, it will be different for each bike and load.
Thanks for all the advice. I got a wrench and took it up a couple of clicks. With just me and my wife we are at around 300 lbs. so that should do it. May have to go more when she loads her shoes and purses! May have to use SC Longhairs setting then!
It hasn't bottomed out or been uncomfortable really, I did notice it was only set at 2... maybe the dealership does that for a softer ride to sell bikes...IDK.
I like the preload set at the stiffest point. This way, if I hit a good bump it'll throw my chick off and I can continue on having a good time.
Ha!
Its always such a different ride with a chick on the back or not.
I too have prog's and adjust them all the time, I can ride two up or solo on any setting, just depends on my mood I guess. and how interesting I want the ride to be
