I apologize if this topic has been addressed in other post, but i cant find the answer im looking for...so, besides a "clean look", are there any other pros to having your handle bars internally wired vs not.
I bought some drag bars but there are no holes for internal wiring. I'm going from 10" mini apes (2012 Street Bob) to some drag bars on some 6" straight risers (Loner Ind). I'm really going to try to install myself, and appreciate any advice. thanks guys!!
Internal wiring involves, unplugging the connectors in the frame below the gas tank.. then removing the connectors from the wires themselves... Its not real hard but tedious ... theres several threads on here that explain how to remove the wiring pins from the connectors..
drill your own bars its easy, also you do not need to take apart the connectors as mentioned. you have a 2012 dyna in 2012 the dyna models stopped using the old style bulky connectors, they now use small connectors. i have ran the wires with connectors attached threw rsd vintage apes and west coast 12 inch mx bars.
so read the directions, and dont stress on taking apart the connectors..skip that step.
I do not like internally wired bars , they short easier because wires rub inside metal bars
This is only true of poorly installed wires, if you install with the soft conduit tube you will never have any issues.
Biggest disadvantage to internal wires is the difficulty swapping bars, externally wired bars are a snap to swap, internal just take more effort and look cleaner.

don't get me wrong I have 2 Harleys with internally wired bars because they do look better but you do have draw backs like shorts and if you need to pull a switch housing its a pain and can you please show me this magical soft conduit that you fish all your wires down thru

The same tubing that externally run wires are contained in, works very well inside the bars too.
If you try to install the wires like an electrician you will most likely have issues, you do NOT just pull the wires, you push and gently pull simultaneously and even bars with sharp angles can be done.

dang that's my problem , I worked for lucent technologies too long . I pull my wires all wrong . I will try your way next time , do you still use the small chain as pull wire ?
