Default 2006 FXDL won't start..... click click

Back in May I replaced the battery, the old one I had for four seasons. The bike has been sitting the last nine days and I've had it on the trickle charger the whole time. So yesterday morning I go to fire the bike up and I get nothing but clicking. So I put it back on the charger and went to work. Come home, try to start it and again I get just the clicking sound. So I test the battery when it's off and I get 12v, then I test it when I try to start it and the battery voltage drops down to 6v. Now I either have a junk battery or there's more to it. Quick back story, last season I came home from a ride and it was a really hot day. I get home, shut the bike off, go do something and go back to start the bike a couple of minutes later and I get the clicks. Push the bike in the garage and put it on the charger. Ever since that happened I've had to keep the battery on the tender, otherwise it would be tuff to start after a couple of times starting it up. The bike has a SE breather, VH BSS, and a PC3. Any help guys would be greatly appreciated.

Kinda sounds like the starter or the starter solenoid. Same thing happened to me when I had an old vt700..replaced the solenoid and was on the road in 20 minutes.

First thing I'd do is get the new battery load-tested, if for no other reason then to rule it out as the problem. If the test shows it to be ok, then start in on the diagnostic-tree for the starting system.

Check your starter relay connections. It's a generic relay and you can get a new one at a auto parts store for a few bucks. Also look at your battery and ground cables and make sure they're tight and clean.

sounds like you need a new battery, and if your have to keep it on a tender to even start it i would check to make sure your charging system is working

Also, the 2006 models were known to have IPB and stator (charging) problems, but think you would have heard rattling noises if thats an issue.

buy yourself a new battery as yours is F------d, also buy a cheap multi meter, battery with no engine running about 12.6 volt, motor running about 14.3 volt approx... Getting a reading off six while cranking means battery cactus should only drop to about 9 volts on start/load approx. 6 volt way too low..

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. I had a chance today to load test the battery and it tested bad. Went and got another battery, voltage tested and load tested the battery before I even put it in the bike. Installed the battery and the bike fired right up. Once the bike was running I checked the voltage and the meter read 14.3v. I'm happy that the charging system is working and it was just a bad battery and nothing more than that.
