I have all the lights off, but the housing doesn't budge? Are the blinker mounting bolts the only ones holding the unit?
Is there a trick to getting this out? I don't wanna just tug and pry at it if at all possible.
Hey toku58, I am away from my HD Service Manual, but if my memory serves me right the rear light housing is held in by a bracket on the inside of the fender. To loosen the bracket you have to loosen the fender rails with the red reflectors, then you can loosen/remove the 2 brackets. Hope I remember OK - on the road right now.
Remove the torx head bolts that secure the chrome strut covers and behind them you'll see two nuts which hold each bracket Alan referred to, inside the fender. After removing the nuts, you can push the threaded studs (which are part of the bracket) thru the fender and remove the bracket. Then the tail light can be removed.
Installed a tri bar tail light on mine a couple of weeks ago, so this is still pretty fresh in my memory. In two more weeks I probably won't remember any of it lol.
