2010 wide glide, the left side of gas tank has fuel gauge and right side is fuel cap. My question is if I remove the left cap with the fuel level gauge will the remaining miles left still work on my center council? Im guessing that it will need the crap hooked on the left side cap.
Yes it will need to be connected for the miles remaining to continue to work, but they make dummy caps that are just hollow underneath so you can leave the gauge wired up under it.
Unless it needs the gauge to complete the circuit it shouldn't make any differance. The fuel gauge is just a gauge the sending unit is under the dash. Just unplug it and you'll find out for sure. The big thing is that you can't put a regular gas cap there. the gauge doesn't screw in it just snaps straight down and doesn't go into the tank at all. There is a tunnel that goes all the way through to the bottom. That is where the wires come out.
The fuel gauge is needed. If you remove it and do not replace with another gauge or LED level cap, the distance to empty will not work and the fuel light will remain on.
I removed mine when I fit an RSD cap without LEDs, but I cut the cap down to extract the gauge, removed the needle and face and wrapped it in tape and stuffed it under the speedo. Works fine.
P.S. the RSD caps look great but do not over fill as it will leak,
