Im having a problem with my 06 street bob. Got the bike with 1800 miles and now has 3800. Never had a problem. Recently tried to start the bike and battery was weak. Charged over night and bike fired up and ran for 30 seconds and died. Started back up and engine light came on for 5/10 seconds and goes off. Codes are:
P0261 front injector open/ low efi
P0263 rear injector open/low efi
P1003 system relay contacts open efi
Checked relays and system relay looked like it had gotten hot and started to melt. I replaced system and starter relays and cleared codes. Tried to start bike today and same engine light and codes. Battery does seem weak but bike does start. Could my weak battery be causing low viltage to the injectors when trying to start bike or is somethng else going on here. Also read my bike should have gottten 25 degree injectors after a HD bulletin and im not sure if this was ever done by previous owner or if this is related to my problems at all. Can anyone help? Thanks
Low battery voltage can cause some pretty random codes. Have you tried clearing them & see if any of them re-appear? Thats very low mileage for an '06, if it's still the original battery fitted it's way overdue for renewing and no amount of recharge will fix things.
I'm more concerned about the engine cutting out after running for 30 seconds, that shouldn't happen.
Check the vin for the build date to see if it has the dowled cases and correct injectors. How old was the fuel? I would start with the battery and go to the fuel filter....
Before you start it next time, get ready to check the charging voltage with a voltmeter. Rev it up a little, and see if you can get 13 volts or more across the battery terminals before it dies on you again.
2006s have a known issue with screws in the rotor backing out, destroying the stator. Won't charge any more.

If this was my problem would it cause those codes? The light stays on for a few seconds and goes away. When i clear the codes and start bike they show up right away. Im thinking clear the codes an charge the battery for a day or two then try to start bike. If not engine light then weak battery should be my problem. If thats the case i have to look into a bad stator. If thats not the problem then im thinking bring vin to dealer and find out about the injector size. I just dont think its the injector size cuz bike always ran fine before this. Any more help out there? I hate to put my bike away for the winter knowing something is wrong.
My 05 FXDI set the same codes right after I bought it used with 17K. Changed up my start up by turning key on, turning kill switch on, wait the 4 seconds for engine light to go off then hit starter switch.
24K miles later and code hasn't came back.
I would address the melted relay, and maybe run some sort of fuel injector cleaner in fuel. your bike has spent a life of sitting in someones garage.
