So on a quick ride today my oil lamp started flickering. Got her home and checked the dipstick and there wasnt any oil showing on the stick. Let the engine completely cool down and checked again, same result.
Added almost an entire quart to get the oil to the "cold check" point of the dipstick. Looked all around the bike and see no signs of any oil leaking out anywhere.
Last time I changed the oil I used 2 quarts. I figured that was off a little (I usually have to put in 2.5) because the bike was straight up on a lift instead of being on the kickstand. S I expected to have to add a little bit of oil, but not this much. It has been almost a couple of months since I did my last oil change btw.
So I guess my concern is where did the oil go? Is this a common theme on Harley's? Any tips on what to be on the lookout for? I got about 18K on the bike now, I have done a total of 4 oil changes so far.
Like RA says, start over and next change, be sure oil level is mid to 3/4 stick level when hot. Obviously, it not leaking, or you would see it. Riddling what happen, or you did 2 months ago is childish.
Thanks for the input, except for the childish remark, could have done without that one I honestly forgot to re-check the oil when I took it off the ramp as I intended. I was turning all my tools in and paying the shop fees, etc and just totally forgot about it. Didnt remember until I saw that light blinking then the memory flooded back!
So you change oil only put in 2qt. ride it two months ( never checking oil ) and the lite came on .
Your kind of lucky the lite did it,s job you did,t .
