Default Suspension Guru's... Need your help.

Lets say I mounted these shocks on my 07' street bob..

Besides the fitment aspect.. how would they work performance wise?

I'm no expert but its about the pre-load and travel. They are dependant on the weight on the shocks at rest and the additional force while riding.

You need it so that at rest the shocks sag about an inch or so. This pre-loads the shocks and makes it so the shocks are ready to absorb bumps. Then you also want it so that when you get the max force (biggest bump in the road) it doesn't bottom out the shocks.

For this reason, shocks need to be designed and adjusted for a particular bike and rider combination. If you were to go with ones not designed for your bike then they may be too soft or too hard and so might work poorly. No way to know.

Why would you? Are they cheaper or better than a set of Riccor's or Works?

I'm guessing the only reason you want to try these is that you are getting them really cheap. If that's the case then go for it. If it doesn't work out make sure that you can sell them for more than you bought them for (figuring in $ for the headache of trying to make them work).

If you have some cash I suggest calling Works Performance and telling them your bike, weight and riding style. They will build you a shock that is guaranteed to fit and work for your weight. It will be +/- $600.00 for the basic shock. I have a set and I am very happy with them.

If you are running shocks that tall I think you will need to loosen your belt as well.

You nailed it! Plus, how sick would a set of kings look on a street bob? haha

Ya maybe I'm better off going with progressives. I can get a pretty deals on them from a friend of a friend.. But even with the discount they are a bit out of budget with Christmas and all.

Only if you can't get anything else. Progressive shocks are about the worst after-market shocks available.

everyone on here seems to talk **** about progressive shocks, I cant say anything about the rest of them but the 970's rock. Ive rode off curbs, hit pot holes, R/R tracks and the things ride like a dream. By far its the best money ($700) I spent on the bike. Ive been running them for over 3 years

I would say the 970's are not your average progressive shock that people here are talking **** about. I've never tried that model shock, but it has to win the award for the sweetest looking and the specs are pretty good too.
