Hello All, I've been off of here for a few months because I sold my '12 Switchback and have been bikeless untill last week.
I picked up a really clean '08 fxdc with low miles and it runs great.
The p.o. had wide glide trees installed at a dealership and kept the stock tubes
and front wheel on the bike. Looks great but the handling is really weird. I test
drove the bike and it seemed to handle great. I rode it home and it seemed fine.
Yesterday morning I checked the tire pressure and both tires were in the mid 20
psi range so I put 30 in front and 38 in the rear. Took a long ride and after about
30 miles I noticed the bike didn't want to track straight and slow speed steering
seemed really strange. The bike has been sitting up all winter.
Could this be the tires? I can't seem to detect any abnormal play in the forks or
wheel and the spokes seem tight. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Hock
It could be a number of things. I'm no expert but I'd start with putting the correct air pressure in the tires per the manufacturer and checking all the spokes.
Could be tires, fall away, vehicle alignment, Rear wheel alignment, crappy motor mounts, bad bearings. I would start with the fall away, vehicle alignment and and wheel alignment. They don't cost anything.
Thanks for the replys. I've been reading up on checking fall away and adjustment. It looks straight foward but apparently my bike has hawg halters wide glide trees on it and I can't figure out how to loosen them. They look really good but are solid on the top and I don't know how to access the stem nut.
Does anyone have these or any pics?
Appreciate any help.
