They both seem equally as fast to me. My 1998 FLHTCUI is much faster than the 1998 FLHTC that I own. The 1998 FXDL is about the same as the 1998 FLHTC. However, the 1999 FXDS-Conv. is about the same as the 1998 FLHTCUI.
Of the bikes mentioned above....I tend to ride the 1998 FLHTCUI more than any of the other bikes. At slow speeds, it seems more stable than any of the Dyna's including any of the FXR's I have ever owned. On the curvy highways, it can keep up just fine with the Dyna's. On takeoff...I have no problem keeping up with everyone else.
Look how many Police agencies utilize the Electra Glides and Road Kings. That says something about the Baggers right there. They also do use the old FXRP and the Dyna Defender....but not nearly as much as the Baggers though. They do the same duties as the Baggers do....but the Baggers offer more.
Police have to get there fast, carry equipment, maneuver in very small areas, and be comfortable all day in the saddle...and the baggers do a terrific job.
I use to ride Sportsters, Dyna's, FXR's, Softails all over the place. I always thought the baggers were too slow and were too big. That all changed until I rode one....completely changed my mind.
If I had to have absolutely one motorcycle....I would get either a Road King, Road Glide, or Electra Glide. Even an older Tour Glide would be alright....even though the newest Tour Glide is now 10 years old.
I rode a 95 heritage softail for the last 5 years. I liked the bike, but I must say that I LOVE my wideglide. I bought a leftover 06 in septmeber after selling my softail....I have not looked back since.....
A buddy and I both rented before I bought. He had a softail of some flavor, and I had the WG. At one point during the 200 mile day, we switched up. I went less than a mile before waving him off the road so I could have the Dyna back... just didn't feel right at all.
This is my first Harley/cruiser but I like the Dyan look and ride. They look old school which is what I wanted in a cruiser. The exposed spring rear shocks, the spoked wheels, the single seats, the round rear fenders on the Super Glide and Bob.The miniape hangers on the Bob andWide Glide all scream old school.
URBAN COWBOY
Spot on.Sure fits my tastes in looks and handling.
I was thinking 'bout a softail Night train or a Street Bob, I talked with a lot of the guys at our local HD shop and they all said the Dyna rode better, it was their general opinion so I was overjoyed stepping up from the sporty expecially yesterday and the 6 hr ride we had!
I'm so glad I bought the FXDB!!!
Love my Low Rider. It is so stable and solid. Plenty of power for me. Never rode a Soft Tail. I've sat on them and I can pick them up off the side stand easier than the Low Rider. Wonder if I could manage the weight of a Soft Tail better?
My first Harley was a 1980 "Fat Bob" and guess the more things change - the more they stay the same because I'm back on a Dyna Bob, althought his time aorund it's a Street Bob.
I've been through a bunch of bikes, mostly Harleys but not all. I've given up on one bike to do it all and have had two bikes for the past few years or so. In 2000 I had a Night Train and an Electra Glide Standard. Then a Road Glide replaced the FLHS and then I thought that I could do it all with a Road King Custom - worng. I've still got a metric bagger so I went with what i really think is the best compromise family int he Harley line-up, the Dyna. They are relatively light and sprty, sprt of like Sportsters, can cruise witht he best of the Softtails and can run the big roads for big miles at super-lega; speeds with the baggers. The Dyna is the Do-It-All Harley, IMHO.
With that said, the only question was which Dyna. I really liked my '99 Dyna Sport (which I stupoidly traded to get the Night Train) and fell in love at first sight with the Street Bob in Black Denim. It ain't an Ultra replacement and it ain't no Buell, but the Dyna does it for me and my type of rifing at this point in mt life.
