I need to change the handle bars on my 07 Super Glide, howeverif at all posible I do not want to go thrugh all the hassle of changing the cables, and the brake line, I need to extend the bars out to about 33 inches from the OE bars which are 29 inches and decrease the pull backabout to about 8 inches, then I will have to deal with the intresting dilema of the speedo any thoughts here would also be appreciated.
Shouldn't be a problem. I put the bob mini apes on my superglide and there was enough wiring to pull out of the frame to reach the new bars. Sounds like you are only talking about 2in on each side. The bob bars are about 5in taller than the stock glide bars and I had no problem. You may need to remove the plastic cover under the frame to move the harnesses around a little. Make sure you read the tech tips in the manual because you can break the brake switch if you don't do it right and it won't be covered under warranty. Tech told me this.
I don't know if these are wide enough for you, but they definitely have less pullback. I broke both wrists on a dirtbike, about 25 years ago, and they didn't like the weird angle of the original buckhorns...
They're for an XR-1000 Sportster; the catalog number is 56085-83A. I ordered them from the 2006 Harley catalog, through the dealer. I think they were around $35 bucks. I'm pretty sure the"A" designates black... (56085-83T is chrome)...but you might want to verify that.
They fit pretty good - my FXD is an '07 - and I didn't have to change out any cables. I did have to bend the metal tube coming out of the front brake master cylinder just a little bit. Do it s-l-o-w-l-y....
They make the FXD feel like a big flat-tracker. I'm 6'4" with long arms, and they fit me pretty good.
I own an 07 SG and I wanted a dif look for my Hbars, so i just did the el cheapo roll back. Yup that's right , i just rolled them back a bit. Gave me a diff profil, longer reach, and the two fists in the wind i was looking for. Just roll them back ABOUT 2 TO 4 INCHES, YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED.
I rolled mine forward a few inches to give me a longer reach. The stock placement was to tight for me and my ape-like arms. Too bad I can't make them less of a pullback or I wouldn't bother changing them.
