Well it's been three weeks since we bought our new Low Rider. Got to say its a comfortable and great handling bike. With a few mods it made a great two up touring bike for my wife and I. We decided to get this bike simply because my HD Breakout was just too uncomfortable for two up riding. I still have my Breakout, but we no longer use it for two up. The mods so far are simple, sissy bar Lepera Maverick seat, rear cargo rack, and exhaust with stage 1 a/f with a power vision map download. I have a windscreen and highway peg mounts on the way.
Speaking of exhaust. After installing and running the Vance and Hines Big Radius exhaust I'm now wondering what was the hype about these pipes. They look really cool but the sound wasn't what I expected. Maybe I'm going deaf but it's really not as loud as I thought it would be. And the sound, it's not as low pitch as I was hoping it would be either.
My Softail Breakout only has slip ons (vance and hines Twin Slash) it's definitely louder and has a deeper tone. But why?...... My only theory would be because the Low Rider uses a non balanced 103 engine with rubber mounted engine mounts. What do you all think?....
I'm not very comfortable with the further forward mids. I'm 5'11'' and I am getting some hip cramps from time to time. I guess I have to spend some more money on forwards or floorboards now. Then maybe new bars and risers. Then a tuner. Damn this is costing me money. I know that HD is marketing the Low Rider to fit someone from 3' tall to 7' tall but I think the reality is that it doesn't work that great. I do think it is a great bike, I just need to tweak the fit. I guess I'll be working extra this winter.
I guess I got lucky...at 5'6" tall with a 29" inseam the foot pegs and controls fit me fine. No discomfort at all.
Had the 1000 mile service done yesterday and went ahead and had the dealer install the SE ac with the pro super tuner as well as dyno tuning. It is covered with the bikes two year warranty since they did the install within 60 days of purchasing the bike.
With the ST slip on w/5 disks and open end cap, the SE ac and pro super tuner the bike did 73.95rwhp/89.63rwtrq...not bad with just a slip on and leaving the stock headpipes with the cat. I'm sure a full exhaust would net better numbers.

Is the non-balanced 103 a lesser version of the 103 engine?
Is the non-balanced 103 a lesser version of the 103 engine?
Probably the opposite. The Dyna doesn't have the power robbing counter balancer to run and the larger frame to throw around. Dunno if the 103b is built any differently in regard to cams or whatever. My gut reaction, and yes, I have a tin ear, is that the OP is hearing things/placebo effect. But, whatever. If it sounds better to the OP, then ride on and enjoy.
Decided to go the street bob head pipe route with S&S mufflers(for now) to get rid of the cat. Added a RS air cleaner and a new tune... its like a new bike!

Thanks! The S&S mufflers sound great... nice low rumble and throaty when you open it up... I have a 2005 super glide with no cat, tuned etc and the low rider felt gutless to me comparing the two with all the stock crap... different story now
