Default FXDC 96 vs 103?

I am thinking about trading in my 09 1200 Sportster Low on an FXDC. There are plenty of 2012-2013s out there with low mileage with the 96 cu motor. The 103 is available on the 2014 FXDC if you can find one. Since they are now discontinued most of the local dealers do not have one and can not get them anymore so I am told. My question is this. Is it worth trying to find a 2014 just for the upgrade to the 103 or would the 96 do the job and just how close are the two in torque and hp? I ride alone some but most of the time I am two up with the wife. We ride a lot in town but like getting on the highway for rides in the 100 to 200 mile range and the 1200 low just doesn't have enough room. We are not to big as I am 5"8 about 195 and the wife is about 5'4 about 160. I am 62 and not wanting to push around anything much bigger than an FXDC. So back to my original question how would the 96 serve me vs the 103? Pro's and cons of both if any? Thanks!

I have a 2008 fxd 96 with stage 1 and it has plenty of git up and go, rode a 103 stock and didn't see much difference, I wouldn't be afraid of the 96

I have a 96 and being a Dyna, this bike is just perfect. It's light enogh to let you handle it like a sportster, it's big enough for long rides and two up.

Engine wise, never been left out it always wants me to accelerate. I feel I need to ride in six gear to have the engine take it easy. I do not have a clue how much power or torque this bikes have, but I do feel mine wants to do a wheelie

Quick note: before I bought this 96, I was offered a 103 in Peterson's of Miami, so not only the 2014 bikes came with the 103 engine, if you really need the power.

96 CI is a lot of bike. Is there ever "enough" ? =) My opinion, 96 is plenty

One solid thing going for the 103 though is ACR. That's just a win in any case. And don't the 2014's have the new computer system? I say that's a plus too.

103 has 6% more TQ according to this article http://nwhog.wordpress.com/2008/02/0...ngine-history/

Nothing wrong with an 88 either.

All things being equal I'd rather have the 103", but I certainly wouldn't pass up a good deal on a 96".

Thanks for the comments. I was thinking the 96 with a stage 1 should put out the same if not more hp than a stock 103 does. I will probably end up deciding on a 96 unless I can find a very sweet deal on a 103.

I rode a buddies street bob with a 96. Exhaust, breather and tuned. Then bought my 14 street bob with a 103. He was faster. Now I have same mods and I am faster. My next step is cams and some port work.

I have the 103 in my '13, so they should be out there.
