Just wanted some input on Dyna models from those who ride them regularly. I have been w/o a bike for 6 months now after selling my SG and now have an opportunity to score a 02 Dyna with very low miles. The 02 has the 88 motor and a 5speed.
Will i regret buying? 5 speed and all? Pros/Cons either way.
just got mine awhile back, no tack but 70mph is a sweet spot and the engine is running smooth. i have heard that the crankshaft is for some reason sought after up to 03. imo, the 5 speed trans is not a reason not to buy the bike. i havent found myself looking for another gear yet. if you are doing 70 to 80 on a wide glide you are hanging on! wind on the chest, 21in front "skinny" wheel. i absolutely love my bike, got it with 57k miles and am currently doing cam chain tensioners, than steering stem bearings, than swingarm bearing/bushing, than main drive bearing insp. working on the bike is enjoyably simple. id say buy it!
I've got an 03 lowrider and cruise at 80-90 on the highway bike just purrs and pulls no need for a six speed. besides if you really feel that you need it in the future get a baker gear set. But I doubt you will. I thought about it but realized I dont need it.
Go for it
Going from an 01 to an 08 Dyna I can say the 6 speed is a bit nicer if your screaming down the freeway at over 80 mph regularly. I don't...
You didn't say if it was an EFI bike or not. A stock well tuned carb is great but most will try and sell you some POS to add on as the next great thing. Getting harder to find tuners that know how to work with a carb as they haven't made one for 10 years now. You have the strongest bottom end HD made in a big twin; a 95 inch is cheap and can be powerful but can also be a PITA and a waste. Only real potential issue I think is the cam drive
I ride a 2002 Wide Glide and doesn't hold me back from anything. The 88 will just about throw me out of the seat if I let it. Plus they sound better with a carburetor.
