There are a couple of guys on this forum that polished their lower forkson their bike,and theylook really good. Ilike the different color tones that you get from, chrome, polished stainless, polished aluminum, brushed aluminum, all on the same bike, it gives it some contrast.If I do mine I'll be polishing them.

how tall are you? i put 2" kury ext controls on my 98 dyna and they were way out there. im not too tall, a hair over 6'1, and i definately didn't need them out that far. not to mention they looked a little crazy way out front like that. looked like the front wheel was going to hit them when i cranked the bars. luckily for me, on a minor defect, i was able to return them. bought the harley controls because i didn't want to re-order. very happy with those and happy with the harley ones on my new 07 dyna.
