Default Engine Guard with Front Controls

So I'm sure (yea) this topic has never come up. I just picked up my first Harley an 08 Super Glide and it has front controls. I picked up the guard kit from the local dealer (the one for front controls). It fits fine, but interferes with the operation of the rear brake. Is there something I'm missing, or do I need to completely redo the brake in order to use the guard. Much thanks all for your help.

Could be a Harley part advertised as fitting many models, but actually doesn't fit all on the list. Also, those front controls might be aftermarket installed by a previous owner, and not fit the same as stock Harley parts. Does it interfere with the pedal itself, or your foot? My 1200C had a front guard on it and I had to take it off; my foot would stop on the bar before the pedal went down very far. Thought the bike had a bad rear brake at first, then realized what was happening. I'd take the bar back to the dealer and ask for a solution; he might have one - but then, he sold that one to you in the first place...

Do you have an aftermarket exhaust? does the guard hit the bake pedal or is the brake linkage hitting the exhaust?

I was wondering this same thing for my 03, I notice the guard mounted between the foreward mount & the pedals and I also noticed that the rear brake linkage was already rubbing on the exhaust s there would be no way to install that guard,, I got the guard that uses u-bolts to mount to the down tubes instead, which is kind of hokey looking but it does fit.. I thought the problem was due to the V&h exhaust. because everything said that those types of guards should have fit my 03 wide glide..

hopefully some one can shed some light on this

I hop

On my buddy's Wide Glide he had the same issue with stock forwards and HD engine guard. Only thing to do is adjust the pedal up or try some different pedal. He ended up removing the engine guard. With bikes being so customizable not everything is going to work together.

What engine guard did you get? I have forwards on my '01 Super Glide with the HD engine guard and there is no clearance issues with the brake pedal...not even close.

I recently installed a OEM oil cooler and there was a problem with the engine guard right side lower mount u-bolt not clearing the oil cooler core...I heated the 90 degree mount on the right side and beat it straight, trimmed it and re-drilled the holes, and then painted the lower mounts black. The u-bolt now goes left to right between the oil cooler core hoses instead of fore and aft and clears the brake pedal by more than 1 inch.

Thanks all. It's all stock Harley. The fix is to adjust the brake pedal. I returned the guard for now. Maybe a winter project - if it's anything like last year, I'll have plenty of time.
