Default Just Another Black Dyna 110 Build

I finally had some down time to start on the long-planned FM 110 build for the '17 FXDB. I got a little sidetracked to start pulling the tranny apart to Heli-coil a few bolt holes and dropping the oil pan to do a complete flush but here we go. I pulled the front cylinder apart last night, set parts aside and am getting the head packed to go off to FM for their "BX" head job. The front breather bolts were just over hand tight from the factory but that's about the only thing that was unusual, otherwise everything went smoothly. The cylinder walls looked good, no scoring and I could still see crosshatching, but the piston and head look like they have a lot of carbon buildup. For the record, the bike only has 6k miles on it from new and currently is running a CR-570II cam set and a FuelMoto tune. I hope to get back in the shop soon so I can box the heads up and get them sent off, but I have 2 clients now and it's killing my Christmas.

You're going to love the 110" kit in that light bike. I hope you get at least 1.94 intakes and 1.61 exhaust valves in the heads.. Try to keep your combustion chambers down around 85cc's. What cam you going with and are you going to be upgrading the throttle body and injectors.. They had told me 4.9's would be enough but after I got done with all mine with the woods 888 cams I was maxing out my injector pulse width up to 21 milliseconds, that's way over the 80% threshold.. I went to the 5.3's and it made a really nice difference in tuning. I wasn't taxing the injectors as much..
Give us the full details..
I also went with the 3 CC dome pistons. Compression is power..

I have more pics and details that I'll post up soon but wanted to get this one up first. Engine guys, what are your thoughts? With end play I am at about .005"

.005" is nothing to worry about.. I've been there since I've owned my Dyna and nothing changed. For your build you will be fine.. The torque will be really good but don't think you're going to see high horsepower numbers with those smaller valves.. Might want to get them to give you a flow chart on the heads.

Thanks for chiming in on the runout. Been doing some searching here also and it seems to be the consensus that .005" is "nothing". Feuling recommends nothing more than .0025" so that's why I paused on the build to get some opinions.

For the build, I'm really only interested in torque, I mean I don't want to have shitty HP but it's definitely lower on the list.

If it makes any difference and I know the cost is quite a difference with the S&S cam plate but I like the bushing and not just a machined peace aluminum, like the fueling.. I know the fuelings are a little cheaper in price but I really think S&S makes best cam plate out there..
Also where are you getting the information of a 1.875" intake? I never heard of that size..

All the parts are long since purchased, they've actually been sitting on my work bench since around May waiting for winter.

All those specs came from FuelMoto's website.

Here are a couple of pics of the crank journal and cam plate scoring. I looked at the dial one more time before taking it down and the runout is more like a hair under .006"

Rear jug is off.


Beautiful, filled Jim's bolt indexers. As the bolts go back in, they are all being replaced by ARP's, unless it's not possible.




Cam plate, oil pump out. Not in this pic, but the cam bearings are out also. Man, look at all that cigar smoke in the background, the wife won't be happy with the way her car smells.
