Default 2007 fxstb

Hi All,

Bike: 2007 FXSTB
History: Bike is a US import to Australia. I belive it cam to Aus with a stage 3 big bore kit.

I bought it at 12000kms, with stock exhaust fitted for rego purposes. Had it tuned by local dealer after fitting Short Shots. Was a canned map and seemed fine. Moved to a hotter climate and bike started pinging, 33000kms. Had it dynoed, so before is the canned map and after is the tune.

Dynoed:
103ci big bore kit
Manual compression releases
SE255 cams
V&H Short Shots
K n N filter behind the football
SEPST

Before: 77HP and 105ft/lbs.

After: 88HP and 112ft/lbs.

Dyno 1

Bike was still pinging and tuner recommended a cam change, he did take adjust something to try and fix the ping after I went back to let him know it was still pinging but without putting it back on the dyno. It still pinged under certain conditions. I just babied the bike for a while I gained funds to sort it.

Spoke with new tuner after I moved locatioms, after looking at the bike he also recommended a cam change. I also managed to source a Thunderheader 2 into 1 for a good price.

Before:
103ci big bore kit
Manual compression releases
SE255 cams
V&H Short Shots
K n N filter behind the football
SEPST - Dynoed, pinging, timing pulled.

82HP and 96ft/lbs.

After:
103ci big bore kit
Manual compression releases, Not used now.
S&S 570 CE cams, easystart.
Thunderheader 2 into 1
K n N filter behind the football
SEPST

Dyno 2.

No more pinging, woohoo.

Is my aircleaner holding back my setup?

What did Deano say about the thunderheader?
Decent dip where most are going to be looking for a bit of torque.
You need to make sure you have the right pipe (or tweak the baffles in that one ) if you are going to look at TB or filter.

He has worked with supertrapps alot and that what he recommended but I could only get what I could afford. I'm yet to speak to Deano about the baffle mod bit I'm apprehensive about modding the pipe, alot of R&D goes into products before they are made and I'm yet to see a Dyno chart with the mod fixing the dip.

I must say though, I was riding home today and god it pulls strong, the tune feels good and it still has over 80ft/lbs at all times so it's no slug.

I will have to buzz him and ask about the mod.

You should of saved your pennies and waited for the SuerTrapp..... That dip is very recognizable upto 3500rpm which is 80% of your riding... That thunder header is great for high rpm like my RB LSR pipe was but I sold that for the Trapp and never looked back...

I daily ride the bike so I couldnt have it pinging. Plus I'm not a fan of the look of the supetrapp. It would.be great t o have more.torque down low, but I really likw the way I feel the cams hit. It was almoat boring to ride when all the torque was down low. The only other pipe I considered was a rhinehart 2 into 1 but Could get the dosh together.

some pipe manufacturers do a lot of R&D to get performance
most pipe manufacturers are happy to make sales based on looks and sound because there is a huge market with a lot of harley owners not putting appropriate weight on performance
I don't know a lot about Thunderheaders but the manufacturer is not going to show a dyno with a baffle tweak improving the result
I have seen results from reputable Tuners who know how to modify the baffle

Save up and get a better pipe before you upgrade the TB or air filter
You had the right advice from Deano and ignored it

I didnt ignore his advice, I bought the best pipe I could afford. You make it sound like I went against all his advice.

Speaking to him today about wether he thinks it's worth modding the baffle and tune it more.
