Sometimes it's not a switch at all.
I recently had the front master cylinder start sticking which caused the light to stay on. I could push the lever away from the grip and the light would go out.

A bit late I know, I just thought I'd share what I found. There's more details in another thread, but basically I rebuilt my front master cylinder and now my brake light works perfectly!! No need for any shims I mentioned in my previous post, I guess the spring that pushes the piston back out was getting lazy after 10 years, so now it pushes out enough to turn the brake light off, nothing wrong with the switch at all. Hopefully this helps someone one day!!
Matt.
Well finally had time to take it in to get checked, when it comes to electrical I'm a complete idiot. Between work and putting a pool in just haven't had the time to do anything.
Shop called me this afternoon, I also had an issue where I kept blowing the headlight fuse. Figured it was a chaffed or rubbed wire on that issue, which was correct.
Brake light issue was an incorrect light bulb in the tour pack. I know I replaced one earlier this year, they said it was the wrong bulb in there that was causing the light to stay on. I'll pick her up tomorrow if work doesn't go nuts. On call till Monday so after that it's time for some riding!
