Default System Voltage

Is 14.4 -- 14.8VDC acceptable system voltage for an HD charging system. Is such a potential injurious to an AGM battery?

Yes and No! There are Stickies at the top of this Section on checking the charging system, from which you will see that the numbers you give are in spec.

I thought you were a navy tech? I guess everyone has their areas.

Harleys are the same as autos, pretty much anything with a battery and engine. So, yes.

Same as every vehicle you own. As stated, best to get a manual. You will need to check AC output. I am not really big on some of the trouble shooting, it was written for mechanics.

For ALL the smart asses that LOVE to spew out this answer instead of something of value,
the service manual only tells you how to change out parts...the Electrical Diag Manual actually has useful information on....get this....electrical diagnosis! Only been this way since 2000 so try coming up with a new way to be a useless ***** to someone looking for help!

Measuring 14.4 - 14.8 vdc (bike fast idle @ 2k) from pos battery terminal to ground is ideal and confirms that your charging system is functional. However, the VDC should not rise above this value as RPM are increased. The rectifier/regulator has a hard wired ZENER that prevents any additional rise - excess is shunted to ground and produces heat, the reason for cooling fins.
