Bus Error Malfunction
2016 Breakout FXSB
20 minute ride. Everything fine... 5 minutes into ride home, all warning lights on Speedo come on, LCD reads "Buserr", absolutely no hand controls working, no signals, no horn, trip button wont toggle, no hi beam, even the front brake lever wont activate brake lights.
Ran fine though... got it home. wouldnt shut off with Kill Switch. Turned off ignition switch, and it continued to run for about 30 secs then stalled.
With ignition switch off, the fuel pump randomly primes as if Im hitting the Run switch. Speedo is blank. No lights, no LCD.
Turn ignition switch on, and she wont crank over (no control functions), random lights randomly come on and off on Speedo.
Pulled Main fuse, waited 2 mins, re-installed.... same symptoms.
Multi meter on battery shows 12.54 volts ( everything off).
Cant pull codes ( no trip function).... Battery charger hooked up doesnt seem to help.
Anyone have any ideas?

If you haven't solved this yet, maybe this will help. The CANBUS is a serial data bus that connects to things all over the bike. Sensors, the ECM, BCM, switches, gauges, etc. It consists of two wires that go to all these devices. Probably something somewhere in the system is shorting or otherwise interfering with one of those two lines.
I would get the wiring diagram from the HD website or your service manual and trace the bus through the system. You can't do this to everything connected to the bus but you can disconnect some of the devices on the bus one at a time and see if the buserr goes away. You may be able to identify the culprit this way. If that doesn't work, try examining the CANBUS wires for damage like broken wires or chafed insulation.
Good luck. This can be a real hard problem to track down.
Edit: It would make sense to do a check of the wiring first, rather than unplugging things. At least every part of it you can inspect without taking things way apart. I guess I'd kinda do both things in parallel.

UPDATE:
So the plots thickens.... as well as the expense.
Got the ABS ECU in, plugged it in and quickly tested everything... Ignition on, everything came back as expected, with just an ABS light on (which I figured since it still needed to be mapped).
next afternoon, put the rear tire back on , started it up to pull into trailer.... let the clutch out and she stalled... immediately all the symptoms came back, and would not crank over.
Brought it to dealer. They spent 3 hrs on it Saturday suspecting a Re-flash would probably straighten it out, and came back reporting they're unable to get the bike to communicate with HD ET.
Serv Mgr shaking his head saying "This isnt good.... Ive never seen any electrical issue act like this"
So... now we're awaiting a phone call to tell me the bad news. I suspect it'll be another week or so. They are scheduling out til May 15th, so Im not expecting to get this thing back any time soon.

Thanks for your insight. It appears he also had a thread on V-Twin Forum that year, says 2 dealers had a hard time resolving his concern. Says they replaced 2 ABS ECU's, 1 BCM, 2 ECM's, 1 RHCM, 1 LHCM, main wire harness and an aftermarket Accel coil pack before things were up and running again.
