Question starter won't turn engine over

I have a 07 Dyna FXDL lowrider that the starter won't turn the engine over. It just jumps in and out rapidly. I have replaced the battery (new), the starter, the relay and I have check the voltage to the trigger switch on the solenoid. the voltage is correct. I have cleaned all the electric connections pertaining to the starter system. Can the ECM module cause the starter from getting enough volitage> If not and idea? Please no silly suggestions.

2 questions

Did you change the starter clutch?
Can you turn the motor by hand?

It's not the ECM. But it does sound like the starter clutch. You said you checked the wiring at the starter, did that include the ground cable?

Well now that you have replaced all the expensive parts it`s time to do some basic troubleshooting...
Usually done before you spend any money, oh well.

Is the new starter a new or used part, has it ever worked properly on this motorcycle?

Remove the battery, charge it and have it load tested, don`t care if it just came out of the box, load test it.

Remove the battery cables and clean the connections, clean...

Clean the connections at the starter relay and starter solenoid and the wires that connect.

I did not change the starter clutch because the old starter and the new starter did the same thing. I did clean and made sure it had a good ground. The starter did work properly on the motorcycle. It did this after setting a couple of weeks. I'm a pretty good wrench and I think I have covered all the bases. I came on the site because I'm at the end of my patients.

If the solenoid is chattering, it is a sign of low current, but troubleshooting will give us the answer.

If you want to find the issue, you are going to need to start with the basics, so that we know where you are at...

This is a very simple starter system, and will be straightforward to troubleshoot, but we need to know that the battery and all connections are good first.

If you have checked something, you must tell us exactly what you did to check it, because we can`t see what you are doing.

Good advice, should be easy to troubleshoot. It definitely makes it harder when you can't watch/hear/smell/feel the bike. If the voltage at the starter is correct then the solenoid is probably fine. It would be an issue with the starter or the starter clutch. Also the battery could be the wrong one, and not output enough cold crank amps.

people please read the original post. It will tell you that I changed to a new battery, new starter. new relay, cleaned all connections. check the voltage on the trigger switch on the solenoid. I wish this site would let me post a short video do you could see what the starter was doing.I also took the plugs out and I can turn the primary chain easily.

Is the battery large enough? Starter relays may have power at the coil but there could be dirt in the actual relay impairing the connection. It could also just be faulty. Maybe you connected the starter incorrectly to the relay? It is very hard for any of us to say because we aren't there watching. Does the starter make any noise when "triggered".

what us it with you and load testing?

if it was doing the same thing with the old battery, and the new battery, I wouldntvwaste time load testing. He also cleaned and replaced much of the circuit already.

I am actually wondering about inside primary. But it's hard to know what it really sounds like not being there. Low voltage is usually distinct. Not in and out. Though not 100% sure what invent out is.

Wasn't worse thing in world out to get new starter on 13 year old bike, it is wear item. Though probably should have just donne starter clutch.
