Hi guys, I'm looking at getting a battery optimiser type as my fat boy tends to have trouble starting if I dont use it for a week or so which is due to the alarm I guess. I have a few questions: what make is best? do they actually work? what life expectancy would you get for the battery would you hook the charger up all the time?
I have checked the battery off the bike it holds a charge for over two weeks, checked the voltage insitu it was holdin 13.7 volts fired up the bike it shot up to 14.5. done this test with the "old" battery and a new one I got thinkin it was a battery issue, Im leaning towards the alarm drawing the power for the battery, it has also crossed my mind to put the bike into workshop mode which stops the bike lookin for the fob...
Do a power draw test and see what you get. The security system doesn't normally draw much power but the siren will if the siren battery is low, it charges the siren battery from the bike battery.
Think about it. You can leave your car sitting for months with the security system on, and it will still start. A bike sitting for a week should not drain the battery.
Subtle difference though as my car has a 100Ah battery and my bike has a 12Ah battery but the security system in each probably draws about the same current.

Our batteries like to be at 100% as much as possible, Therefore, I always put my bike on my Battery Tender in the garage.
