Default Installing Andrews 57H cams this weekend

Greetings all,

When I get home today, I'm anticipating a package from Dennis Kirk sitting at my doorstep with S&S pushrods and lifters, as well as a gasket pack for the cam change. Very excited, but a little nervous about ****ing something up. I bought fellow forum member robbyville's 57h cams a few months ago and am salivating at this install. If it matters, this is for a 2013 103 Switchback.

Some questions.....

From the dyno's I've seen, the 57h cams (assuming great tune) give a nice bump up in power. Should I be considering an oil cooler or similar? If so, recommendations?

Is it correct to assume that, like a new engine, the cams need a break in period? These cams were bought used with about 2,000 miles on them.

How is engine braking with these cams? Is there less/more engine braking? If less, is it recommended to upgrade brakes to compensate?

Is it worthwhile to get the .030 Cometic head gasket as part of this project? I'm going to be removing the rocker box heads (not sure if I have the right terminology here......the 2 piece covers on the very top of the engine) and replacing the polished aluminum with chrome.

Thanks and sorry if these questions seem asinine/stupid/crazy/newb'ish/etc.

Replace inner cam bearings with Torrington B168s; tools required. No need for an oil cooler but won't hurt to have on with cams or not; Jagg makes a nice 10 row low mount. No break in period required. Your question about engine braking is academic; not to worry. The 57 cams could benefit from a bump in compression but IMHO, not worth pulling the heads just to install a .030" head gasket. If you pull the heads, might as well have some work done to set them up for the 57 cams.

If you don't have the HD service manual for your bike; get it. Read, take your time; getting in a hurry to get her back together and ride gets guys in trouble. Be patient, keep thing organized and clean. You did not mention fuel management and tuning; very important to get the most out of the upgrade.

Greatly appreciate you jumping in on this. Appreciate you answering the questions posed. Between you, Scott and a handful of other members...you guys rock.

The Fuehling gasket kit comes with the Torrington bearings and already picked up the Heartland bearing install tool last year.

Already have the shop manual and, along with reading a bazillion threads and youtube videos, have been reading/researching extensively.

Tuner = V&H FP3 for now. They have a map for the 57h and pipe (V&H Pro Pipe) and A/C (SE A/C) I'm running. There is shop about an hour from me that has a good rep for tuning. Once installed, I'll book an appointment over there for a tune, and a new ECM.

Heads are on the agenda for next summer.

Sounds like a plan. Not in Scott's league but appreciate the thought. Don't know why you need a new ECM?? Maybe you meant fuel management to replace the FP3? I have heard good and bad about the FP3. I have attached a link to a discussion among some FP3 users and their experience with the system that might be useful since the FP3 does have an auto tune feature that could improve on the canned map. The information is a bit dated but thought it might come in handy.
