Default Lifter confusion

I need new lifters for a Woods 777 cam installation in an 08 RK and the mind boggles at the choices. Spring pressure is stock

Who is Cyco and are they any good?

Is the practice of using a SBC lifter frowned upon? I read conflicting information that it is a repackaged Crane to an S&S video showing that it takes 2 min. for SBC VS stock lifters at 45 sec. for oil to reach the top end - not sure what SBC lifter they used

Stock B VS C......... the choices go on and on
My stock lifter is a 183538-99B

The safe route seems S&S "high performance" or stock, but am interested in what the differences are, if any, given the limited number of manufactures and ways to skin a cat.

your 99b lifter isn't available any more the newer 99c are garbage made in mexico crap . they bleed down and clatter like crazy. think s-s or woods are your best bets now and from post I see about lifters most of the builder recommend going .130 on pushrod adjustment after 0 lash.

As stated the 99B lifter is no longer available and the 99C have a bad reputation. The Woods consistently get good reviews but are pricey. If you decide to go with S&S do some research and start with their website. You will pretty quickly notice what is highly touted about the Premiums but not-so-much about the standards. Might explain why they cost half as much. Message me if you'd like more info on that. There are also Hylift-Johnson which are US made and can be gotten here...http://www.larrysmotorcyclemachine.com/. He's also a forum member and very knowledgeable.

I did not even check with S&S and assumed that High Performance was just that - apparently there is something higher

Will contact Larry as suggested

The difference in SBC and S&S standards is in the size of the oil port in the lifter body and how quickly the lifter pumps and gets to the top end. Hands down the standards are a great worry free product.....

Pretty sure the oil port in the lifter bodies are the same. The difference is in the hole in the piddle valve; SBC is smaller. Some run the SBC lifter but change out the piddle valve from a set of used HD lifters.

I'd still buy the S&S lifters but your post and picture really shows the difference. Definitely good info for those on a tight budget.

Is that because we run 20-50 or even heavier oil rather than 10-30 or even lighter?

I have always wondered why 20-50, 50, or even 60 given modern synthetic oils ability to maintain viscosity at high temperatures and how our bottom ends are made.
Here comes the oil thread!

The Johnston Highlift ones from Larry referenced above are only 30.00 more expensive than SBC from Summit
