Default Normal Valve noise, I think???

So I bought a used 2012 Ultra Classic 19k Miles. I am not sure if the engine noise is normal or not. (Newbie to HD). The noise is aways there and it's a slight ticking. How much does the lower and upper fairing amplify this noise? Everyone I've talked with says it's normal, the dealer as well. Thoughts???? Stock bike, no upgrades to speak of.... Thanks!

Much Peace, David

When do you hear the noise? Idle, certain rpm's or all the time?

It's always there. Just gets faster as far as the ticking goes. Lose it at 60mph or so from wind noise.

I know I spend way to much time listening instead of enjoying. Give it a couple of weeks and you will know what's normal. These things do make noises.

My buddy and I both installed Rockouts, didn't make a difference for us. Great product but our rocker shafts were pretty snug to start with. Didn't cost much to try and gave me the opportunity to enlarge our oil drain holes while apart.

Does it have synthetic or conventional oil in the engine? I've had a few people tell me conventional oil quiets the tick. Honestly I have no idea if that is true.

It is true. It usually won't eliminate it but it will help to mask/lessen it. My favorite oil as far as noise is Spectro 25-60 dino oil. Worst is Mobil 1 V-twin syn.

But then any minute now someone will come along & say that M1 is the best they've ever tried. Every engine is different.
