After you fix or replace the leaking gas tank ... you may want to address the vibration issue !!!
what you described sounds like a timing issue ...you should find that area in the map , (what throttle position and at what rpm ) where the vibration starts and retard the ignition/spark by at lease 2 degree's to start with ...and retest then start taking 1 degree until it smooths out ..!!!
Water is a PITA to deal with.. Simply blow air through the tank while welding. You can blow air for say 15 min before welding get most the vapors out.. Air in the petcock hole, air out through the filler and gas gauge holes. MC tanks are small I wouldn't do this on a 55 gallon drum for sure.
