Okay cool thank you Cody, beside CP Carillo are there any other good companies to go with, tmann? I’m going to look into sending out the jugs
Tman is good, Wiseco is good. Just make sure you choose a piston with a dome volume that is going to help you achieve your target compression ratio. If you haven't already, check out the Big Boyz compression calculator. Mess around with it, get familiar with it. Everything that's going to effect your compression ratio is on there, meaning that all of those things are measurements you're gonna need to gather to predict what compression you'll be running. For that S&S 585 cam, the money spot is right around 10.6:1 static compression. To get the most out of any given cam on pump gas, you want to be at the highest compression you can without experiencing detonation (that's where a good tune comes in). In terms of cylinder pressure that loosely puts people somewhere between 190-210 psi on 91 or 93 octane. The reason the "magic number" for your static compression changes from cam to cam is because of the intake close angle, which very closely effects how much your corrected compression, and cylinder pressure is going to drop from static compression levels. If you haven't already, check out the Big Boyz compression calculator and become familiar with it if you want to piece together your own kit, and/or do the build yourself.
Personally I would choose a piston with a -1.6cc dome, and if you're going to have the heads done have them decked to an 83cc combustion chamber.
I have a 98" with ported heads, 10.5 compression and 585 cam. It runs great, but like everyone says, power comes on at about 3k.
I also have a 103" stage 1 motor with the Andrews 48.
They both have similiar HP/TQ numbers at 5k, but in my opinion, the 103 with the 48 is more fun to ride. The power down low really puts the smile on my face.
Ballot-boy when you said Kirby you meant Vee twin racing in Florida?
