Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
While taking a close look to my recently aquired '82 fxr i noticed a bolt in the front cyllinder head, i don't think this thing belongs here. The local harley mechanic didn't know why it would be there.
I think some of you guys might now more about this.
He mentioned that he did see it but also didn't know what it was, i bought it from a dutch guy who occasionally imports a bike when he stumbles across a nice one/good deal. The motorcycle has been imported from LA earlier this year, so the previous owner might be somewhere around here, who knows.
does it actually extend into the head casting? through to the combustion chamber?
Can't tell by the picture but one thought I had was a backyard attempt at securing a valve seat, but I think the angles all wrong.
What it ever it is It's my list of " Huh, that's a first ..." oddities I've seen done to old shovels and I've seen some righteous head scratchers over the years.
I don't know if it extends, it does look like it's in the head. But i'm not gonna touch it, it sits there well, and if it did solve anything it might be wise to leave it as it is.
Hahaha but i don't know what feeling it gives me, on one side it's a "screw head bike" on the other side nobody knows whats going on.
Thing goes like hell, thats what matters for now. Maybe someone comes around who knows whats going on here. We'll see what happens.
