Default BIG Bore KIT 92500039

I have a 2015 Streetglide Rushmore with a Stage 1 103HO engine. I want to increase the displacement form 103 to 110 by just using the BBK above. However, when i made a few enquiry to my local dealer, they insists that I have to have at least a Stage 3 or 4 in order to increase the dispacment via the KiT above. Which means i have to install the 92500035 kit rather. Is this making sense at all? Why can't I just have the BBK 92500039 only? I am NOT looking for big gains but just a slight bump by taking advantage of a larger displacement.

No reason why you can't install the referenced BBK; the dealer guy is just trying to upsell you. Find a local independent shop or another dealer that will work with you. That kit is no different from the 95" BBKs the dealer was sell back in the TC88 days but those kits typically included the SE203 cam set. If you have a service manual, basic hand tools and basic mechanical skills, you could DIY the project; not rocket science and just takes patience.

I think the reason why they say a stage 3 or 4 kit is 'required' is because that big bore kit will increase the compression beyond what the stock HO cam is designed for. With a 30° intake close, the HO cam will bump the ccp to around 205-207 or so with the 110" kit's 10.2 compression ratio (compared to the nominal stock 103HO ratio of 9.6:1). The stage 3 or Stage 4 cams with their later intake close will drop the ccp to a more manageable level. With that said, the HO cams would probably work out ok with a really good dyno tune.

What martinj says may be the reason but I am not sure that the dealer techs are that knowledgeable; the few that I have encountered are not. My little 98" motor hits 212psi CCP, no issues but do have to remember to use the compression releases on restarts. Two of the best tuners in Texas are not far from my doorstep.

The dealer techs has the answer KITS work . Your 103 can make about 100 hp. with the 3 7/8s cly. With bigger TBI / head port / cams. Just putting bigger cly. on the engine may lower the performance until you increase head port -cams-TBI. The tire shredder kit has one of the biggest increase in street performance for the 103 motor. Kit Kit Kit just putting one piece at a time is not cost efficiency. You tear down to put parts in over & over cost more money. The tire shredder kit has made 130 ft torque and 115 hp. on my bike. With the right exhaust & tune.
