Engine Tapping Sound
If it's still under 0.006" I would say it's good but take a look at the camp plate as well and make sure that where the pinion shaft rides isn't worn out.. You will see a lip starting to build on the outside of the plate.. The wheels might still be good but oil pressure is the key here..
Didn't know anybody could get that kind of mileage out of a twin cam that's pretty impressive..
I also decided to pickup a new primary cam drive chain, secondary cam drive chain and the fastener kit.
Part numbers:
25585-06 Camshaft Chain & Fastener Kit
25683-06 Secondary Cam Drive Chain
My local HD dealer (12 miles away) didn't have the above (2) parts in stock. Non of the other fairly local HD dealers (4 of them) had it in stock. Found a HD dealer about 60 miles away, had them actually pull the parts to verify and picked the parts up today. To my surprise, I see on the counter the now common notice "3.4% charge for using a credit card". I was happy they had the parts I was looking for but upset that I didn't have enough cash with me. Counter person asks if I'm a veteran or in the military, They offer a discount if you are, but I don't qualify.
I jokingly mention that I'm a national HOG member (I am), and the counter person says, "that works", and I get a 10% discount, which softened the credit card surcharge.
Being a national HOG member, yea, I got that going for me

I try to save money when i can..
If the pinion shaft run out checks out ok, You should be good to go. Is that a groove in the shaft? Can you feel it with your finger nail or knife?
By what I can see it looks as if the oil pressure started getting low. You can see the how the condition of the pinion shaft at the oil port looks good but outside that 1/4" path you can see scoring and a little heat build up which to me would indicate lack of good il pressure.
I would definitely get a Fueling oil pump or possibly an S&S with cam plate. I know they're a bit pricey but I really like the idea of the bushing in the S&S. I think it's a much better design.

HD #25683-06 Secondary Cam Drive Chain --> The part I picked up (only one the dealer had) had a special order label on it with a date of 08/13/2015!

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Still waiting for my Amazon delivery of the Feuling crank runout measuring tool.
Today I pulled out both cam bearings and removed the lower rocker boxes. The lower rocker boxes put up a fight. Took a few dead blow hammer hits to get them off.
Question: What/how do you recommend removing the gasket debris from the heads?
