Merry Christmas to you all. I have a few questions about the cam I installed. I have a 2010 Dyna Superglide with a 96 engine, Stage 1 intake and Vance and Hines Straight shot slip Ons. I used an FP3 to tune it.
I installed a Woods TW-222 cam, S&S precision lifters, and Fuel Moto adjustable pushrods. I also replaced both inner cam bearings.
I took my time over the past two days disassembling and reassembling the bike. I used my and a combination of manufacturer's instructions and videos as well. I installed the cams and set the timing, marks on the cam and crank sprocket matched up. Installed the lifters correctly and followed the correct procedures when adjusting the pushrods. I reinstalled the exhaust, foot brake lever, O2 sensor, spark plugs and wires.
When I started it, the exhaust tone is rough now and I noticed more sound coming from the top end. Honestly it kind of freaked me out so I only let it idle for less than 30 seconds. The engine or oil light did not come on after I started it and it did crank right over. No oil leaks and it wasn't smoking or doing anything out of the ordinary besides more top end noise and the exhaust tone was rough.
I understand, that going to a higher lift cam, the tone will be different. I uploaded my ECU to Vance and Hines with all of my bike's engine parameters, but they won't be back from Christmas break until January 5th.
Did I screw something up or will this smooth out with letting the components break in and uploading a tune to match my components. I really didn't know if I was doing any damage, that is why I cut it off and didn't attempt to ride it. I am praying I didn't hurt the engine.

Top end noise may be lifters pumping up.
hard to tell without hearing but sound can be nerve racking and can last awhile. (Longer than 30seconds).
not saying you didnt mess up install but not at all uncommon for the noise to last minutes.

Thank you for your reply. If it is the lifters pumping up, would that change the exhaust tone? I'm afraid to restart it and let it idle in case it is a different problem and I end up grenading the engine.
Did you pre pump the lifters? If not, you should have removed spark plugs and cranked for at least two minutes to get the lifters to pump up. If you put the lifters in dry, that is more than likely what you are hearing.

Thank you for your response. So, should I pull the plugs and run the starter for two minutes now or have I done damage at this point? If the lifters aren't properly pumped up, would that make the exhaust tone sound different/rough?

Pull the plugs and crank for 2 minutes, let the oil pump do its job. As far as damage, probable not. Let me know how it goes.
It sounds scary waiting for the lifters to pump up. 30 seconds isn't enough time if you didn't pre fill the lifters before installation or if you didn't turn the motor enough to get the lifters pumped before actually starting it. Also it sounds like you don't have the tune for it yet? Personally I wouldn't even try to start it without a base tune or a canned map made for my combination.

Thank you. Sorry for all the questions, so pull the spark plugs and crank motor for roughly 2 minutes. Should I crank for a minute and then take a break, I only ask so I don't over heat the starter or any electrical parts. With doing this, should my exhaust go back to sounding the way it did before?

cam dots were matched up and cam sprocket and crank sprocket were lined up. When I spun the rear wheel, sprocket dots came back to match up and also went to 180 degrees from one another at TDC on the other cylinder.
