Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
A friend bought a 03 Softail with low miles 25,000 . Said it was making noise. Ik started it and front lifters were loud. So I changed them. Which I've changed some before. It was ok sounded good the next day I fired it up and they got loud again but this time the oil light came in and stayed on. We thought maybe the tensioners were getting bad so I had a look they didn't look to bad but I installed a s.e cam plate upgrade high volume pump and hydraulic tensioners new rear lifters as I had just replaced the front and also adjustable push rods. As I have installed a few of these kits before. And yes I did rotate the rear wheel in 5th gear to make sure the oil pump was centered and torqued the 2 bolts while rotating as per directions. Well the lifters are still loud and the oil light is still on. I also made sure oil holes in lifters were pointing towards holes in case front and rear. I also pulled the oil pressure switch and ran it for a minute and there was oil coming out. Although seems like the oil return to the tank is real slow like it's just spitting some every little a while. So I'm open to any and all suggestions anyone may have. Like I said I've installed a few of these kits and have never had any problems like this . So thanks in advance. I'm hoping someone has some good advice as to what and where to start looking at.

What is the oil pressure using a mechanical gauge?
So I installed the new S.E Camplate upgrade with high flow oil pump hydraulic tensioners and new stock hd lifters and S.E adjustable pushrods. I did not change oil and filter as it was new.
So idk but I went through pushrod adjustment again blew the oils lines out and I did change the oil as my friend said he'd used some oil from tractor supply that I've never heard of . Fired it up and oil light is off and lifters are quiet and good to go
