Default Recommendation on motor build

So this last winter I did almost all the cosmetic/suspension changes that I wanted to the bike. This upcoming winter I am planning on tearing it down and doing the motor work and would like some recommendations for those of you with the knowledge.

Bike: 2006 FLHTI 88ci
Mileage: 19.5 now - probably 23 by winter
  • SE Stage 1 Intake Plate
  • Rinehart TruDual (3.5")
  • PCIII

I float back and forth between 225 and 250 depending on how rough the NE ohio winters are. Usually ride solo, but occasionally with the wife. Bike is used for commuting (50 mile round trip) and day trips (250-300 miles). I ride "flow of traffic + 5" and try not to be too hard on the drive train but do enjoy the sound of the exhaust.

I am hoping for something that would hopefully put me in the 90/90 power range (is this being overly optimistic?) but would still let me take off on a 3000 mile ride without concerns if I wanted to (and momma and the kids let me take off). Occasional hard roll on throttle wheelies won't upset me but aren't required

Considerations:
  • Cost (always) - but I will budget as required
  • I'd like to do as much as I can myself - i'm not a professional mechanic but I am decent shadetree - I've done engine work in the past but I now when someone else needs to be called
  • thinking about gear driven cams
  • 95/98 kit?
  • I will have the whole motor apart at this time for paint/powdercoat - might as well do it all at once

Thanks in advance for your advice

One rock-solid, long-proven combination is;
Our Stage II Heads
Andrews 37
Bore to 98", set at 9.8-10.0 cr.
100 hp and 105-7 ft/lbs is in easy reach.
BTW, we have world-class powder-coater's right here in our backyard.

Hillside I see 95 kits on your site. I am assuming that the 98 kit you are speaking off is a bored over version of the 95 touring on the site?
