Default advice for next motor mod

For dam sure im having the heads ported and polished.

So aside from port, polished heads what do you think i need next?
my goal is to reach above 100hp and 100tq if possible...

He will be charging me about $1000 for the headwork and all fluids while its apart.
Im thinkin ill have another $1000 to play around with when the snow flies.
bike has 26000 miles.

What would you suggest will give me the most HP/TQ for my buck?

***main source of transportation outside of snow, so staying reliable is KING***

1000.00 for just headwork,or the whole build? 1000.00 is a lot for just doing heads.any decent 95" with even mild 1.900/1.630 headwork, cams & some compression will do 100+/105+.

For the $$:
1) Better fuel tuner
2) Throttle body bored out
3) Bigger/Better cam
4) Better pipes - I have the same, love them but not great for hp/tq

Not sure the order is perfect but food for thought......

Cylinder head work does not create an unreliable engine, and is what you'd want to do if looking for more power.
Target64's build is bonafide living proof........

Check out J&P cycles for a throttle body, they had a closeout on the Kury units at a very good price. Did I read 253 cam in your sig line? might consider dumping that for something better. And yes, head work properly done will result in a more reliable build , better valve job, high quality seals, good flat surface cut and proper chamber cc are things that don't always come stock.

You read correctly, and yah i was thinking re-cam. That things definitely robbing some of my power. got some hints that a 285 cam may be close to my best bet

Headwork, cam upgrade, new tuner and good tune will deliver the TQ/HP you are looking for. I noted the "domed pistons"; be careful with cam selection and make sure it matches up with the compression of your current configuration. Look to the aftermarket for a cam set; pass on the HD cam choices and select a cam before you have the head porting done; the porter will want to know piston dome volume and cam intake close so if your chamber volume needs adjusting, he can incorporate that into the head work. You may even need to pull the pistons and have the dome shaved to take full advantage of all the aftermarket cams that are available.

There is more to this that meets the eye; can't just throw some parts together and expect a satisfying result. You might want to talk to Kirby or Scott who are two of the forum sponsors and let them guide you on how to proceed to a predictable result; don't out smart yourself.
