Default Finally got my tour pac lined.

I bought this tour pack a couple months ago on an eBay auction. It was just a box and lid. I had to purchase ALL the hardware for it, and relocate the lock as this is from an older shovel bike and the latch and lock were in the middle on the right side. Since lathes for my '90 model are obsolete, I had to buy newer style latches. I also got the back rest from eBay.
I don't care for all the TP lighting, so I cut out the lens insets and fiberglassed the long holes. You can see that I still have a considerable amount of body work to do, but it'll get finished this winter when I re-paint the rest of the bike.

I was able to get 2 full yards of this material (kinda like speaker cabinet material) for 3 bucks from a local army surplus store, so I lined the bottom and lid with it. I think it turned out great.

I think I will line my bags with this same stuff when I get the right one fixed to full size.
If any of you are in need of tour pac or bag latches, and intend to purchase them from ANYBODY on eBay, PM me first so I can give you some important advice. Without it, you'll be sorry.

I don't know what you're going to use for mounting it to the bike, but I highly recommend you not use the shovelhead detachable mounting system, if you have that. The one I had came with a danger sensor and ejection mechanism. If the tour pack sensed an upcoming danger, like a pot hole, it would auto-eject and you could watch it bouncing along behind you.

Shovelhead hardbag tops used the same system...lol.

Do you have any pics of how you did that? Looks really good!

It came with those funky quick detach mounts but I took them off and bolted it directly to my stock tour pac rack. Without the luggage rack, it sits about 1 1/2 inches lower. Looks cooler to me.
I put studs in the rack to make lining it up easier, and wing nuts to secure it so I could take it off without a wrench. But the wing nuts stick up a bit, so I may end up just using bolts.

I didn't take pics of my progress. Sorry. I do a lot of cooking, competitive BBQing, sausage making, bread making, etc, etc and I take a lot of pics for tutorials on a couple of discussion forums I frequent. They really like that stuff. I didn't know anyone here would care for it.

Great job on the lining. That looks very nice. I am going to be getting some latches for my tour pack soon, so I guess I could use the info you have to share...

I don't want to "out" anyone publicly, so I'm saving my info for PM's.
