If you have a VOES, check the operation of that, too. Your bike is at the age where the rubber diaphragm in the vacuum switch might have rotted. A bad VOES can masquerade as a host of drivability issues (as I all too well know).
Plugs don't look that bad. Can only be 2 things. Spark or gas. could have coil going bad, and drain the float bowl, let a a 1/4 pint out to clear the lines.
.
Your plugs are an indication of how well your motor is burning its fuel etc.
Your apprieciated pics. of your plugs show that your motor is very healthy .
Do the checks for a bad coil , coil wires , or carb. trouble.
Check for elec. trouble first as your plugs look ok. so i would rule out the carb. unless you have done recent work on it .
Also , check the voes for vacume hose leak.
So I had recently started running with my air cleaner exposed as seen in the picture below. I put the stock air cleaner cover back on the sputtering is gone. It was allowing too much air in and the issue started right after I made the change. I apologize for wasting your guys time. I should have started from there. I know better.
Good to hear it was that simple
The easy stuff can sure kick your butt, then when ya remember when and what ya did to cause it.
Let's just say a lot of folks have had their own DUH Moments too
Too much air? Do you mean it was too lean? Because of the air cleaner? New one on me. Congrats anyway.
Well, the absence of the air cleaner cover was causing a lean misfire. I asked an indy mechanic and he asked about any recent changes to the bike since it was running like a top and hadn't been misfiring before. I told him I had ditched the stock air cleaner cover and was running the filter exposed and he said that's probably the culprit. Put the stock cover back on and it's back to running perfect again.

Are you sure it wasn't just your jeans being blown onto the filter element and causing it to run rich????

Pretty sure it wasn't the jeans. Either way, putting the cover back on fixed the problem. Now I gotta find a cool AC cover to replace the ugly stock one.
If your "ugly" stock cover is in nice shape, can I buy it from you? PM me with info
I'm probably gonna run it as is till the dead of winter when I'm planning to have some other stuff powder coated but if I decide to sell it I'll send you a pm.
